Meeting 6: ‘Happy City’ by Charles Montgomery

The book is Happy City: Transforming Our Lives through Urban Design by Charles Montogomery. “Happy City is the story of how the solutions to this century’s problems lie in unlocking the secrets to great city living This is going to be the century of the city. But what actually makes a good city? Why are some cities a joy to live in?”

Hosted at The Tapastry as always, hoepfully as the Summer months come along we can have some meetings outside! Please let me know if you attend, and look forward to seeing you all!

  • Do you think about these spaces in a different way since reading the book?
  • Should we try to conserve Edgelands as we conserve other rural environments, or would this destroy the wilderness that makes it special?

Meeting 1: ‘What Has Nature Ever Done For Us’ by Tony Juniper

The first Green Thinkers in Nottingham will be held on 29th September 2015, 6-8pm – ALL WELCOME

Venue: The Tapastry, Heathcoat Street, Hockley.

We will be discussing ‘What Has Nature Ever Done For Us’ by Tony Juniper

The book is a fantastic insight into our fundamental, but poorly understood, life-support systems; and it is timely for communities, businesses, and governments around the world.

We will be asking questions such as:

  • What benefits does nature provide to you, and your region / organisation?
  • Can, and should, a price be put on nature?
  • What do you see as the greatest threat to the effective functioning of ecosystems? and what are the potential consequences if they break-down?
  • And if traditional conservation has largely failed to protect iconic endangered species, can biodiversity offsetting ever be a good thing?

Please email Claire Russell at Hosta Consulting to book info@hostaconsulting.co.uk
